I love reading! Of course, I'm a writer, so I better like reading. Well, in my love of books and reading, I've amassed a large library of books. I need to open up space to bring in more. So, I have a ton to give away. Are you interested in receiving a group of Steeple Hill Love Inspired books? I'm going to give away 4 bundles of books. If you would like one, please leave a comment or send an email.

I’ve been working on the re-write of my first chapter. The opening scene is staying basically the same; however, how the heroine meets the hero is changing. I thought of a better scene for them to meet. I think it works much better this way.
Over the past couple days, I’ve been so busy at work that lunch times have been devoted to work and not much writing. So, it gave me time to think about my chapter. All of a sudden, I realized my re-write was in the wrong verb tense! I have no idea what I was thinking. I’ve never written in present tense so it caught me off guard.
That’s when I realized I needed to pick up a book to get back in the correct writing mind frame. It’s been great because I’m really taking notice of how words are being used and descriptions are being made. I’m getting back into the right mind set and ready to get back to correcting it.
Have you ever done this in your writing?

So, I finally did it. I'm now on Twitter. I've read a little about it and decided it was time to just do it. There are many authors who are tweeting for their fans along with many aspiring authors building fan bases. I realized this was a necessary step in developing myself as an author. It seems like it could be a lot of fun... we'll see.

Right now, many authors are waiting these last few days to hear if they are moving on to the next round in the Genesis Contest. The Genesis Contest is held by the ACFW every year for unpublished authors. It’s a great way to get your work into the hands of experienced authors and/or judges. Even if your work does not make it far, you will receive helpful comments and critique on your work. This is a fantastic opportunity for any author.
So, this is my next goal. Complete my manuscript for the 2012 Genesis Contest. Wow! I did it and put it out there in writing. I feel that this is the next step in achieving my dream of being published. Even though I have never completed a manuscript of this scale or professionalism, I know it can be done. So, let’s hope that the remaining chapters don’t take as long as the first. I only have until Feb-Mar to complete it.
One of the cool things that ACFW does for the contest is to make a judging sheet available. What a great resource (or checklist) to see if your work contains the required elements. It will be a wonderful guide while I work on my novel.
I have to stop and say that I’m just in a moment of amazement. When I started this journey just over a year ago, I never imagined I would be at the place I am now. I’m still a long way from publication, but so far from the beginning. It’s unbelievable to me to even say the words that I want to submit my work for a competition. It has been a dream of mine for so long that I just feel amazingly blessed right now that it's getting closer. God is so amazing and is opening this up for me. For that, among so many other things, I’m am extremely thankful. I hope that I’m able to spread His love through my writing.
And I’m so excited that I will be able to share this all with you.

This past weekend had a lot going on. Friday was my great-niece’s 2nd birthday. We enjoyed getting together with family to celebrate this special day. On Saturday my parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. It’s such a blessing to have both of my parents still with me and enjoying so many years together. On Sunday, my son’s preschool class sang for the church that hosts the school. The 4 year old class joined them and it was such a treat. All of his grandparents were able to join us. Then to top it off, today is my brother-in-law’s birthday. All the while, trying to fit cleaning and chores into the bunch.
And it doesn’t stop there! April is really busy for us. At the end of the week is my other brother-in-law’s birthday. Then right after Easter, my son will turn 4. It’s safe to say that we have very little spare time during this beautiful, spring month.
Even with everything going on, Saturday I was able to carve out a couple hours to devote to the wonderful world of a wannabe author. I read through the critique of my first chapter (again) and it was great. There were points that need worked on and encouragement for those that didn’t. I’m very thankful for the CP that God has sent my way. I’m excited to get working on some of the suggestions. However, I still would like to find at least 1 or 2 other CPs. I feel it is important to have viewpoints from a couple sources. So, if anyone is interested, please let me know.
I also looked for a domain, just in case I want to venture out into creating my own website. Unfortunately, the one I want was bought by a company to resell at a ridiculously high price. And it’s just my name – nothing special. I searched for another with my shortened name… taken. Finally, I found one that could work. Hopefully it stays open for a while. I’m just not ready yet to take that step.
Next, I mulled over the idea to start tweeting. I know I’m probably behind in the times on this one, but it has never interested me much. However, I know it can be important with connecting with other fans of fiction. So, I do see myself delving into this in the next month or so. We’ll see.
The remainder of the time was spent studying some information on writing, the various avenues of social networking for authors and looking around on eharlequin.com, the Steeple Hill Love Inspired site. Even though I didn’t accomplish any writing (or re-writing), it was very productive.
My next step will be to focus on the review of my CP’s work. I pray that I do a good job for her and bring some good insight to her work. I’m a newbie at this, but I love reading and know that I can be of some help and hope to improve over time. I want to be as much help to my CP partner as she is to me.
