Review - A Dream of His Own

Finally the third book in the Dream Come True series is here! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while and I can say easily that Gail did not disappoint with A Dream of His Own. And we also find out the story of the secret donor for the Dreams Come True Foundation.

Quinn O’Neill is recovering from the devastation of losing his wife and 15 year old son in a car accident. He’s relocated to a new home away from all the memories. He’s trying to change who he is and how he lives. This includes funding the Dreams Come True Foundation.

Ava Darnell has gone through her own struggles as well. She is a widow and her 15 year old son, Brandon, is in remission from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Being a single mother is not an easy job and comes with many trials. One of those is figuring out when to trust her son and when to allow him more freedom. It’s a difficult balancing act.

Quinn and Ava meet when his car backs in to hers… or does she back into him? Instantly you feel the chemistry between the two. They are a delightful couple and it was fun to watch them overcome their pasts and move on to their future with each other.

I really enjoyed following along as Brandon’s relationship with both his mom and Quinn grew. I have a five year old son and I know some day I will be crossing similar dilemmas with him as he grows into a man. Brandon’s feelings were accurate and heartfelt for what he’s gone through in his short life. Gail created a wonderful character you connect with and cheer on throughout the novel.

Gail always uses wonderful insight from God’s Word to express her story. In this book, she uses Jeremiah 29:11.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

As always, this really made me think. It has so much meaning to me at this moment in my life and I feel that it was used in this book for a reason. God moved Gail to use this verse and it’s what I really needed. It has even led me into a study of Jeremiah and I’m learning so much insight.

I highly encourage you to pick up A Dream of His Own and check it out. I know you will really enjoy seeing where God brings Quinn, Ava and Brandon.
