The Doctor’s Devotion, which takes place in Eagle Point, Illinois, is a wonderful story about two people who come together to help save lives and end up falling in love.Lauren Bates is back to visit her grandfather for the summer. It’s been a long time and she’s excited to be with him again. She’s also worried about his health and leaving him at the end of the summer. After giving up nursing due to an unfortunate event, she doesn’t want to help with the new trauma center opened by Mitch Wellington. But continually feels drawn back to nursing and helping people.
Mitch Wellington opens the new trauma center after losing his father because a hospital was not close when he needed it. He’s also healing from a broken engagement and doesn’t want to get back in to a long distance relationship. Not wanting more heartache, he doesn’t want to open his heart to Lauren because she’ll return home at the end of the summer.Mitch and Lauren have a difficult time fighting their feeling for each other though because Lauren’s grandfather is like a father to both of them. With Mitch spending so much time at her grandfather’s, can Lauren overcome her jealousy of Mitch’s relationship with her grandfather? It’s not an easy road and one that Lauren must deal with before the relationship can develop into something deeper.
Of course, Mitch has his own issues with healing from his engagement. Will he be able to look past the hurt caused by his ex-fiancée and give Lauren a chance? You’ll have to pick up the book to find out.The reason for the 4 stars is based on the idea that Mitch and Lauren never met until they were adults. Even though this is explained in the book, it was very difficult for me to believe this. Even though cliché, I would have enjoyed the story more if they would have met when they were younger.
As always, Cheryl’s writing is a great model for me and I enjoy reading her novels. I recommend The Doctor’s Devotion because you will have an enjoyable read filled with “real” people. They have real feelings and real issues. I can’t wait to read more about Eagle Point Emergency in the future.
